The Strand Arcade

The Strand Arcade shares similarities with The Queen Victoria Building in Sydney. Both are the city's elite of retail shopping locations, are embellished with ornate architectural decorations, and contain the highest-end stores available in the area. Shopping in the Strand Arcade is like taking a trip back in time, the history is explosive, and anybody entering this outlet cannot help but be inspired.

Today, The Strand Arcade contains exclusive fashion and accessory stores, boutique coffee and chocolate shops, and an atmosphere than cannot be matched by any other arcade in the county. If you want to locate Australia's finest and most expensive fashion designers, treat yourself to morning tea in the Strand Arcade, take a ride in the two old hydraulic elevators, and stroll through the three levels of impressive and sometimes even quirky clothing stores. The structure has been completely restored and well maintained, which confirms the value this arcade has for the residents of Sydney. Although other similar arcades were built in its time, The Strand Arcade is the only Victorian-style establishment in existence today. The arcade as built in 1891, and was opened in 1892, unveiled by the architect John Spencer. At the time, he received a standing ovation, and was recognised for his efforts in creating a Victorian-style shopping arcade, that also took into consideration the harsh Australian climate.
Although Sydney has some stunning modern buildings, The Strand Arcade is one feature that the city cannot replace. No modern architect could match the detail and elegance of the historic but eternally loved construction. Any person wishing to visit the Strand Arcade can easily do so during retail opening hours. It is located between Pit Street Mall and Town Hall, on George Street. Stand at the entrance, smell the aromas of coffee and rich cocoa and you'll find it hard to resist stepping inside
