Market City

Market City is an Asian-style shopping centre that is located near China Town, in the western end of Sydney's central business district. Nearby Central train and bus stations makes it conveniently located for out-of-the-area visitors, and it can also be accessed from Darling Harbour and Ultimo areas.

Although western retailers are welcome, Market City could almost provide to a strict Asian clientele. This area of Sydney has strong eastern demographics, partly because of the nearby University of Technology which hosts international students. Market City, and China Town in general, is the place to go when your require authentic products and services, just like they would be provided in a location like Beijing.

Market City is a variety shopping complex, and possibly one of the most diverse within Australia. You can find a modern shopping centre which focuses on affordable fashions and accessories, however don't expect to find much range in the larger Australian sizes. If you have a petite build and adore quirky and cute Asian-style fashions, this is the shopping centre of your dreams.

Underneath Market City is the very popular Paddy's Markets, which is a major tourist attraction for both locals and foreign visitors. On entering the darkness of the basement you will be confronted with neon flashing lights from cheap gimmicky toys, garments made from Australian wool and leather, and masseuses keen to give you a one-minute sample of their service. You can amuse yourself with a range of sticky nuts and candies, or even complete your fresh food shopping at the large fruit and vegetable market. Here the products are fresh, the competition is high, and the prices are rock-bottom low.

If you are keen for a night out, China Town has it all. Nearby restaurants also compete for providing you with an affordable, but very touristy Chinese banquet, and in the summer months local craft markets intertwine with the food outlets. Market City itself offers a cinema complex to provide further entertainment.
