The Underwater Bondi Experience is a world-first combination of real fish in aquaria and audio-visual experiences that takes visitors on a 2,000 dive tour of the amazing marine life in Bondi Bay – all in 30 minutes and without getting wet!
To start the journey you enter the Virtual Reality Dive Transporter Show, which takes you way up over Sydney and then down the golden sands of Bondi Beach, out through the surf and past all the fish in the shallows, to the North Bondi divesite known to locals as the Bondi Boulders. Then the sliding door opens and suddenly you feel like you are underwater at this very divesite! You have in fact just walked into a room-sized, full scale model of the Bondi Boulders divesite you saw in the last scene of the Dive Transporter show – brought to life with huge wall and ceiling projections, water effect lights and the magic of your own perception.

This site is authentic to North Bondi and features its giant pink boulders, with their trademark holes burrowed out by generations of black sea urchins. Camouflaged amid the boulders are aquariums where you can meet real local marine life face to face; including baby Port Jackson sharks, scorpion fish, crabs, seastars and many others.
Now that you have a feeling for what it's like to go diving at Bondi, you flow into the Bondi Blue Cinema, where you are taken on a 2,000 dive tour of the rest of Bondi Bay. This unique film took 2 years to make and is a fish’s-eye-view tour of the six different “hidden” habitats of Bondi – starting in the famous Bondi Surf, and out through the Shallows, the Rockpools, the Boulders, the Deep and finally the Open Ocean. Here you experience giant cuttlefish changing shape and colour; meet the bizarre and uniquely Australian Weedy Seadragon; see friendly Blue Gropers, harmless Wobbegong sharks and electric blue sea spiders.
You discover that Sydney has the most diverse marine life of any major city in the world.
As you exit you are met by a reality check – another re-creation, but this time of the North Bondi stormwater drain – all full of rubbish – making a sharp contrast to the beauty of the magical underwater world you have just discovered. You are then given a physical call for help, the opportunity to make a simple and easy change to your life that will help to keep our oceans beautiful!
A must-see addition to a fun day out at beautiful Bondi Beach.
