The World Heritage listed Cockatoo Island is Sydney Harbour's largest island. It still retains examples of Sydney's convict past including solitary prison cells, hand carved silos, a guardhouse and convict workshops. Cookatoo Island's resume also includes locating an industrial school, a reformatory and one of Australia's biggest shipyards.
Sydney Ferries currently operates services to Cockatoo Island via the Balmain/Woolwich service and the Parramatta River service. Ferries depart from Circular Quay. Some services also connect to Darling Harbour or to Woolwich and Balmain.
See the Sydney Ferries website for the latest service details.
At Circular Quay please check with Sydney Ferries staff to confirm your departure wharf (Cockatoo Island is not marked on indicator boards).
Please note that if you are travelling on a Woolwich service from Circular Quay in the morning, the ferry travels to Woolwich first and then Cockatoo Island is the first stop on the return trip to Circular Quay.
